SCF Research & Sustainability Event
Held over the first weekend of the 2018 September school holidays, the SCF Research and Sustainability competition hosted saltwater, freshwater, boat, kayak, shore, bait/lure, spear and free-diving fisherman from all over Australia. Anglers of all ages and skill levels competed from midnight Friday September 21st, to midday Sunday the 23rd, recording their catches via the SCF Research & Events mobile app and shared in $50,000 worth of cash and prizes spread over 40 categories.
There were 13 inshore and 13 offshore species on the target list. When a competitor landed a fish, they took a photo of it on a brag mat or flat measuring device and uploaded it to the SCF Research & Events app. The SCF event website incorporated live scoreboards that updated in real time and displayed the current leader for each category, as well as the size of their catch.

Women that Fish
In 2012, a group of dedicated women established Queensland’s first ever women’s saltwater barramundi fishing tournament - the Women That Fish (WTF) Barra Classic, a lure only, tag and release event based in the Fitzroy River Rockhampton. The WTF Barra Classic is an event for over women over 18 years of age. Teams are made up of 1, 2 or 3 competitors and optional male skipper. The competition aims to empower and build the on the water confidence and skills of women that fish as well as provide a friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.
In 2018, the WTF Barra Classic used their very own branded Track My Fish app with live scoreboard which lead to higher audience and sponsor engagement while reducing administrative time for the organisers. Since its inception, competitors have caught and released approximately 350 barramundi and other species, ranging from 30 cm to 1.05 cm in length.
